POLICY ALERT

Date: July 30, 2000           Reference #: CACFP CCC 2001-09
To: Child and Adult Care Food Program-Child Care Center (CACFP-CCC) Contractors
Subject: Parental Notification Requirements
Effective: October 1, 2001

ArchiveThe Agricultural Risk Protection Act of 2000 (Public Law 106-224) requires contractors participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) to notify each household with children enrolled in their facilities for child care that those facilities participate in the CACFP.

In cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) the Special Nutrition Programs (SNP) has developed a flyer for contractors' use which will satisfy this new CACFP requirement. The flyer presents the information in English and Spanish and provides

  • a brief statement about the CACFP;
  • notice of the facility's participation in the CACFP;
  • the USDA and SNP toll free telephone numbers for households with questions or concerns about the CACFP;
  • the name and telephone number of the CACFP contractor with administrative oversight of the child care facility.

Other translations will be made available upon request. Contact your designated Area Program Office regarding this need.

Beginning with Program Year 2002 (October 1, 2001), CACFP contractors must post the English and Spanish versions of this flyer in each of their child care facilities, and distribute the flyer in the appropriate translation to each household with children enrolled for care in their facilities. Sponsoring organizations must also post the English and Spanish versions of this flyer in their administrative offices. Contractors must distribute the flyer annually by the beginning of each CACFP Program Year and must also provide the flyer to households who enroll children for child care during the CACFP Program Year.

SNP will assess your compliance with this program requirement beginning with administrative reviews for Program Year 2002. You must ensure that you post the flyer where it can be easily seen by the public entering your facilities. You must also maintain documentation of your method for distributing the flyer to the households with children enrolled in your facilities for child care. Failure to comply with this program requirement will result in adverse action, up to and including termination of your agreement to participate in the CACFP.

SNP has attached a print master of each flyer for your use. You may also access this flyer on the SNP web site at www.dhs.state.tx.us/programs/snp. To access the file, click on the link titled Child and Adult Care Food Program for Child Care Centers (CACFP-CCC) Contractors Parental Notification Requirements. This downloadable flyer contains both the English and Spanish language versions in a single file. When you have opened the file, enter your organization name and telephone number in the box provided in the lower section of the flyer. Complete this step before printing the file. Once the information is entered on one flyer, it will automatically write the same information to the other version of the flyer.
