Subject: TexCare Partnership: Children's Health Insurance Program

Texas has implemented the Children's Health Insurance Program effective April 3, 2000. This program, referred to in Texas as TexCare Partnership, makes low-cost health insurance for children available to families who satisfy the income eligibility requirements.

We have attached a copy of the TexCare Partnership public information flier which explains the availability of affordable health insurance for children and provides the instructions for households to make application to receive the insurance. We request that you provide copies of the flier to your day care home providers for them to distribute to each household with children enrolled in their day home. The household will determine its interest in the program and be responsible for making application as directed in the flier. We also request that you include this flier with any child nutrition program application and information materials your day care home providers distribute to households at the start of each CACFP program year.

SNP will provide the fliers for you to distribute. You will receive an initial supply of fliers by the middle of May. We will base your initial supply on the enrollment figures you provided us last year for the WIC materials. As you need additional copies, contact your Area Program Office.
