During School Breakfast Week the Texas Department of Agriculture is recognizing Spring Independent School District for outstanding achievement in serving breakfast at school. Spring ISD was one of only 11 school districts nationwide and the only one in Texas to receive a grant to increase breakfast participation from AASA, The School Superintendents Association. The district used the grant to implement Breakfast in the Classroom in seven elementary schools and Grab-n-Go breakfast at four high schools. They used the nearly $200,000 in grant funds to buy mobile serving carts, kiosks and other equipment. Representatives from The School  Superintendents Association also pointed to Spring ISD as breakfast grant success story at the recent Food Research & Action Center conference in Washington, D.C.
